can’t help myself

During my first meditation this morning, the Eric Burden and War song, “They Can’t Take Away Our Music”, strolled into the rather emptier than usual spac e of this Thursday mind. It’s encouraging and rather loving to be reminded of that – they can’t take away our music.

Somewhere in a land far, far beyond metaphor, I walk along and get to be me, with all my goofy, joyful, grateful stuff, absolutely no matter what’s going on around me. The honking, crowding, judging, ignoring, screaming, raining, shining world as it is. I’m still humming The Four Tops and Herman’s Hermits. Still leaning on my own lamp post.

This ain’t a news flash. Victor Frankl in his book “Man’s Search For Meaning” said it with, and from, a gravitas yours truly ain’t never known so far along the path. I’m just saying the “Music” song floated in and I was real grateful to be tapped on the shoulder one more time – “Hey kid. They can’t take away your music.”

“Animal House” quote – “They can’t do that to our pledges. Only we can do that to our pledges.”

Something like that.
