first-time travelers
Reporting from Cayucos, lovely hotel second-floor room with a direct view of the ocean and this town’s pier, which we walked before check-in.

Earlier, coffee at 6:15a at our favorite Ojai roasting company, a reverse trip on the 150, back up the 101 to the 154, a twisting and bragging byway through green and hay-brown mountains. Past Lake Chumera, now again on the 101 north through vineyard country (think “Sideways”) and into San Luis Obispo, where we re-fueled at a downtown Starbucks.

Then a couple of blocks to Phoenix (used) Books, a truly amazing wonderland of every writing. I actually bought an updated version of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ now set in 1998 Manchester, England – seven dollars.
Ann gunned it over to the coast on the 1, through Morrow Bay and to here, Cayucos. We took a long walk at the water’s edge, mingling our toes with the warm sand and lapping waves, after hauling all out stuff up to the room. Ann discovered a live sand dollar on the beach and gently placed it back in the salt.
First time in San Luis Obispo and Cayucos for both of us. Three bookstores, three piers.
