a sandpiper

I took this picture yesterday in Cayucos, California, at the very edge of the Pacific Ocean. A took a bunch of photos there and this was the poorest in terms of sharpness and quality. The sandpiper and I had a bit of a dance, just how many steps I could take in his/her direction before a scampering away. Focus a tad jumpy.
There’s something about this scene, it’s obvious to say, um, the solo figure in its survival mode on the edge. That’s like fourth-grade stuff as lazy metaphor for my life these last 10 days (with apologies to fourth graders). So, why did I just write it? Why do I blog here? It’s simply a picture I like, foibles and haziness and all. With, fortunately, not a metaphor in sight.
