“I’d like to be under the sea in an octopus’s garden in the shade.”

I like things that aren’t quite clear. That stand kitty corner to accepted, expected. There’s an octopus’s garden under the sea – all well and good. And there’s in the shade – hmmm. Kinda cool.

My friend Karen on the North Shore of Oahu shared a kind of cool story the other day. It seems she was walking along in the water and felt something under her foot, reaching down and coming up with an old tin can, jagged edges of the top pried up, still attached. Being the defender of all things North Shore, which includes the whole planet, she tucked the can in the back of her bathing suit and walked home. When she arrived home she looked in the can, and inside was a live baby octopus. What do you do with that? Karen walked back to the beach and gently tipped the can to release the octopus back into the sea. Under the sea. Maybe even into the shade.

Thinking about her story again this morning, The Hollies appeared in my mind – “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.”

Random acts of kindness. All in this together. Maybe the planet slips out of orbit just for a second and dances – dances with each shining moment like this.
