evesdropping

Our friend Cory stopped by Sunday morning to see how I had fared in my procedure. I was slightly under the influence of legally prescribed drugs.

The three-way kitchen conversation eventually swung around to people, and how different people want different things and are inspired and motivated by different things, and since we – the species – wake up in the morning with something like free will, each of us gets to choose what matters. What has real meaning. Even who we might want to emulate – be a little like.

Cory heard one suggestion related to some or all of this the other day, and it was this – Evesdrop. It’s okay to evesdrop, she heard, even encouraged at times, and who knows the kinds of unguarded things you might overhear which could give a little nudge this way ot that, even possibly – the way things sometimes do – turn into a significant change in the path you’re walking.

I couldn’t say I ran to the computer – me being slightly under the influence of a “maybe-this-will-help-you-not-get-too-scared” drug for the MRI banging thing – but I did saunter over here and begin writing Monday’s Blog – this one – because I was enchanted and warmed with the sweet idea of evesdropping is encouraged.

One of the Four Boundless Vows of Zen Buddhism is to, “Walk through every wisdom gate.” Maybe gentle, respectful, grateful evesdropping brings you (me) right up to one of those gates.
