A birthday card I received from Kate in Columbia, Missouri.

To its left, a birthday card I received from David in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Behind that, a partial image of a photograph taken of me and my son Cameron at Disneyland, Florida. Back right, a casual Buddha I bought in South Park, San Diego, upon first arrival. I call it the Saturday Buddha. In front of the Buddha, a post card image of Judy Garland, always a favorite of my mother Irene. And in front of that, coming back toward us, a decal I picked up at Smith Rock Records on a visit to Bend, Oregon.

Everything held upright by a lovely table cloth from the Saturday farmer’s market in downtown San Diego.

Rainer Maria Rilke said sometimes naming things is enough. Maybe to name is some of the marvel.
