it begins

107 degrees rolling into Ojai at 2pm. Left San Diego at 5:40a, Starbucks stops in San Clemente and Oxnard. At Ventura farmer’s market, walked out on Ventura’s pier. First book stop, Timbre Books, nothing for me, talked with a young woman selling clothes out of a short bus she’d parked by the sidewalk.

Off to Santa Barbara, walked the SB pier. Beautiful drive back on the 101 by the ocean to the 150, curvy, forested route by Lake Casitas through mostly green hills, into the oven-like Ojai day. Purchased small deli containers of healthy foods – we forgot utensils, save one spoon.

Over to Bart’s Books, an Ojai landmark, our second independent bookstore. Ann bought a beautiful painting/art book. I scored a used Michael Connelly mystery, five bucks. Ann’s sister Patty PayPal’d money to Ann to support our coastline bookstore venture, which paid for our books.

We’re staying the night in a small airstream trailer Ann rented.
