old man

I guess I can make a case that there are benefits of being this old. First, and foremost, I grew up in the sixties – class of ’67 – and the sixties traveling into the seventies. Those times, that sense of possibility. A special mystic. And, right up there with all the wonder, the music. I got to partner with, dance to, and rejoice in all that music. Last week I posted that I was going to share on Facebook from YouTube one of my favorite songs each day, possibly forever, my continued ramble down the path of saving the planet. Thus far it’s been Martha and the Vandellas “Heat Wave” (’63); the Tom Rush cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Urge For Going” (’66); Boz Scaggs “We Were Always Sweethearts” (’71); Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” (’68); Jeff Beck’s “Plynth” (’69); The Rascals “Sing a Happy Song” (’71); and yesterday’s “Tell Her No” by The Zombies (’65). Can’t forget today, and Wilson Pickett’s “Land of a 1000 Dances” (’66). Everyone who was there knows the sixties went at least until ’75.

See.

Here’s another benefit of my ongoing arrival at my rather ancient b-certificate status – So,………….

Uh, I was going to say that my 2024 fed and state taxes were done for free by AARP tax folks at the Allied Garden Branch of the SD library yesterday, what with me being old and not so hot with math. However, when I arrived at the doors just at the 11:30 Monday opening, the doors were locked, with a colorful sign in the window – “Library closed Presidents Day.”

See – being older, ex-sixties hippie and trouble-maker, is pretty cool. And sort of dorky too.
