sitting in chairs

I was introduced to two young men yesterday, in a hospital cafeteria about a mile from my home, for whom I’ve been offered the opportunity to provide a bit of support on the (their) job, and maybe help them open up a little more to the world and the folks in it. As I’ve been assured that they know everything there is to know about the job requirements and routines – see me sitting at a table daydreaming – I feel I’ll be of the most help just showing up and being myself. Offering praise, cheerleading a bit, perhaps something of an old guide walking with them down the road toward the biggest and most joyful life waiting when people are given the chance. When they come to believe it’s possible.

When I returned – after starting the laundry – I created and posted a video on Facebook describing my newest paperback effort – “The Joy in the Journey” – a personal look at getting and staying clean and sober, and the happiness and gratitude and grace which can be found along that path. When you make your own luck. Joy within the journey.

The dignity of risk. Right?
