spinning gratefully
My first paid position in the world of human service was as a day camp counselor for the House of Seven Gables Settlement House in Salem, Massachusetts in the summer of 1974. …… 1974.
I was thinking about this leaning back in a chair in the cafeteria in the UC San Diego Health Center yesterday morning. While supervising two folks, a 37 year-old man and a 64 year-old woman, for whom I am responsible as a job coach.
Summer camp counselor, job coach. A whole bunch of time in between.
Judy Collins asked in her song of the same name, “Who knows where the time goes?” If I make it to my alarm at 2:59 this Sunday morning I will have completed 76 years spinning around on this troubled and lusciously amazing planet.
In service as a human.
