ten directions

In Buddhist writings there are many references to “the ten directions”. Here’s a line I read this morning – “This is the dharma of thusness that is the right thought of all the buddhas in the ten directions.” A reference to “non-thinking”.

The ten directions are explained as north, south, east, west, halfway between north and east, halfway between east and south, halfway between south and west, halfway between west and north, up, and down. On my walk earlier this morning I brought my full attention to all of the ten directions. How could I have not?

I did not, though, have non-thinking.

How could I?
