why, some days

In my book “Joy in the Journey” there’s a story of a woman from Everett, Massachusetts who says, “When I first came to the coffee shop my life was the size of a peanut shell,” and the author’s resonance upon hearing that. Now, moving away from here, taking only what will fit in my car, moving to a city – San Luis Obispo – where I know not a soul, there’s the “peanut shell” thing again. At least on the outside looking in.

And yet, it could not possibly be any different. Now, some 42 years later, my life is filled with a spaciousness far, far beyond words. Even within this heavy awareness of loss.
